If there was a comfort food in our household, it is pear preserves on buttered toast. Since I was a kid, my mom canned pear preserves every year. She taught me the canning process. I still have not perfected her recipe but this is darn near close. It is so simple, chuncks of pears simmered down in their own juices with sugar, a pinch of spices and lemon juice.
